Dr. Piero Volpi is Orthopedic
Surgeon and Sport Medicine Specialist. He is director of the Knee Surgery and
Sport Traumatology Unit in Humanitas Research Hospital.
He played professional football from the beginning of 70’ until 1985 keeping on
his medical studies. He is now Responsible Physician and head of medical team
of F.C. Internazionale Football Club, Milan.
He is also Responsible Physician of Italian Association Football Players (AIC),
Instructor of medical issues of FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association),
Vice-President of the Antidoping Commission and
Member of SLA Commission of FIGC.
He has been Teaching Professor of Residency Program in Sports Medicine at the
University of Milan, from 1993 to 2000. He is Author of more than 200
publications (10% International Journals) and over 500 contributions, including
book chapters, articles and presentations in Scientific National and
International Meetings.
He is Teaching Professor of Residency Program in Orthopedic and Traumatology at
the University of Milan, from 2001 and tutor in matters relating to the Sports
Trauma and reparative Surgery of the Knee.
During the last 10 years, with his team, he has treated numerous professional
athletes across various sports, especially football and he has performed more
than 5000 knee and ankle arthroscopy, 3000 ligament surgery of both knee and
ankle, more than 1000 joint replacements and about 1000 tendons repair and
cartilage treatment surgeries.
